We are sad to announce the passing of our author, Carl Franklin Dalton Holiday, who died this morning in Melbourne, Florida at the age of 88. I had the honor of assisting him in the telling of his compelling life story in, BACK OFF I’M A DALTON.  While working with Carl, I realized his amazing success at transcending from his meager and devastating childhood to a strong, much loved, and successful man.  Carl will be greatly missed.

Tragically abused as a young child, by an unstable mother, Frank ‘Dalton’ Holliday struggled with his fate in the post Sharecropper era in rural South Carolina. Frank eventually managed to escape his mother’s grasp and leave Pickens County for dreams of riding the Dalton Gang’s trail, of his forefathers, from Oklahoma to California to find his fortune. However, an unexpected friendship in Atlanta, Georgia found him in a Marine recruiting office and on his way to the Korean War. His path of self-renewal led him to a successful future back in Georgia and Florida.

Young Frank Dalton must transcend his tragic childhood through the inspiration of his famous kin

BACK OFF I’M A DALTON tells the story of a young Frank Dalton growing up in the bygone era of the post-sharecropper south. His story is full of contrasts from a loving and nurturing grandmother, to an embittered, loveless mother who treated Frank as not much better than an indentured servant, with no laws in place to protect him from her physical and emotional abuse.

Learning that Dalton blood flowed in his veins and evenings spent with his grandmother’s readings of the Dalton gang’s exploits, the young Frank Dalton found his strength to endure his own person hardships. It also inspired his yearning for adventure in the west away from the small, petty, and cruel realities that threatened to destroy his spirit.

This book transports the reader into two American eras of the old west and the post-sharecropper south with a richness that evokes its time like the writings of the Grapes of Wrath. We take a journey with a young hero who must rise above the gravity that would pull him into hopelessness and the depression of his circumstances and finally finds redemption, healing, and love.
